Undergraduate Admission

If you are in high school it is recommended that you take:
- 4 years of math (to the calculus level)
- Chemistry and Physics
Graduate Admission
At the graduate level, admission has two levels. Departmental admission requirements and Graduate School requirements must both be considered. This is done on an individual basis because of the diversity of backgrounds of applicants in the program. An applicant should meet or correspond directly with the graduate faculty as a first step in determining his or her specific admission status. Admission to the NMSU Graduate School
Students seeking regular admission to the NMSU Graduate School must hold an undergraduate or advanced degree from an accredited institution with an overall grade point average of 3.0. Students with other equivalent backgrounds may be admitted if they meet the prerequisites stated below.
A prospective student should secure the necessary admission forms at http://gradadmissions.nmsu.edu. After receiving a completed application, the Graduate School will forward application materials and transcripts to the Department of Industrial Engineering for review. The student will be notified regarding his or her acceptance by the Graduate School. No material is forwarded to the department for review until all required application materials have been received by the Graduate School.
Students are eligible for regular admission to graduate study in the IE graduate program if the following conditions are met:
A student holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a school accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and has taken a course in calculus based probability and statistics, or a student holds a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school and meets the math prerequisites of the Department of Industrial Engineering. The prerequisites are: 9 hours in calculus; 3 hours in differential equations; and 3 hours in calculus based probability and statistics. All students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above (based on A=4.0) during their last 60 hours of undergraduate study. For more information, contact:
