Dr. Janet Kwakye is a full-time professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at New Mexico State University (NMSU). She earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from NMSU. She also holds master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering and Applied Mathematics, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.

Her research focuses on operations research and analytics, with applications in digital twin technology, machine learning, discrete-event simulation, manufacturing systems, supply chain optimization. Her work integrates mathematical modeling, simulation, optimization, and data-driven analytical techniques to improve operational efficiency, resource allocation, and overall system performance.

Her doctoral research focused on developing a simulation-enabled digital twin framework for evaluating traditional and 3D printing-enabled dental prosthesis supply chains. Through discrete-event simulation, her research examined production efficiency, inventory management, resource utilization, and supply chain performance under alternative manufacturing strategies. Her broader research interests include integrating machine learning with simulation and optimization to support predictive analytics, operational decision-making, and the development of intelligent manufacturing and supply chain systems.

Dr. Kwakye’s research also extends to mathematical optimization, healthcare operations, and mathematical modeling of complex systems. Her publications include work on mixed-integer linear programming for patient scheduling and resource allocation, digital twin applications in additive manufacturing, and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.

In addition to her research, Dr. Kwakye teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering economy, large-scale systems engineering, production and inventory control, and related industrial engineering disciplines. Her teaching emphasizes analytical problem-solving, systems thinking, and the application of engineering principles to real-world industrial challenges.
